Kindergarten Registration for 2010-2011 School Year

Kindergarten Registration for the 2010-2011 school year will be done at the following schools:

on Tuesday, March 2                                     on Tuesday, March 2

Washington Elementray School                Douglas Elementary School

at 5:00pm                                                         at 6:00pm

411 North Mulberry Street                             905 E. Main Street

935-6383                                                         935-2987

Parents living in Clinton should register their child at the school where he/she will be attending. The city boundary line is Madison Street.

In rural areas, parents living in Dewitt, Lane and Wapella area should register at Douglas School. All other rural parents shoudl register at Washington School. If any parents are in doubt as to where to register their child they may call one of the above schools.

Any child living in Unit District 15 who will be five(5) years of age on/or before September 1, 2010 is eligible to attend. Please bring a certified copy of your child's birth certificate (from the county clerk's office, NOT the hospital certificate).  Also bring your child's immunization records with you when you come to register. The district nurse will be available to answer questions.

All parents of children who will be attending kindergaten this coming school year are asked to come at the designated time. A presentation will be given for specific information and instructions concerning registration and kindergarten. It is not necessary for parents to bring the child to registration. You will be able to meet the kindergarten teachers. There will be no childcare available for this very important meeting.

Health formswhich are to be completed before the child enters kindergarten will be available at the time of registration.

If you know of a child eligible for kindergarten next fall and will not have access to this information because there is no brother or sister in school, please rely this information to his/her parent. It is very important that parents register their children at this time so that our kindergarten plans will include all eligible children.

State Dollars Owed to Clinton School District
The State of Illinois currently owes the Clinton School District just under $500,000 dollars. The state has begun to make payments in what is called their mandated categorical funds for this fiscal year, which began in July 2009. Mandated Categorical Funding are programs that the state supports financially outside of general state aid. To date the state owes the Clinton School District the following:
Special Education 194,881
Lunch Program 7,463

Transportation 184,795
Pre- Kindergarten Program 64,488
Reading Improvement 28,819
Safety and Education Grant 8,713
TOTAL OWED CUSD15 $489,159
The concern is obvious, if the state is unable to meet its financial responsibilities then the costs for all of the above fall back to the local district. Our district will be required to make signifcant reductions in programs and staff in order to sustain this state deficit. I do anticipate the deficit to continue to grow before we will see a change.

Inclement Weather Information
We all know that living in central Illinois the weather can change quickly. It is for this reason that parents, guardians, and babysitters pay close attention to weather forecasts, especially as we embark on the winter months. As the superintendent of schools it is important for me to plan with the director of transportation, area superintendents, and road commissioners so as to allow for decisions to be made regarding the need to let out of school or to cancel school altogether.
As we head into the winter months it is important for parents to discuss with their children the procedures to be used when school is to be let out early because of inclement weather. As parents you need to be aware if the weather looks as if it could get bad. The school district will attempt to allow 2 hours prior to letting students out in the case of bad weather. Parents need to tune their radios to WEZC (95.9-FM) and WHOW (1520-AM and also 92.3-FM) Clinton, WJBC (1230 - AM), WBNQ (101-FM) Bloomington, WSOY (1340 - AM), WSOY (103-FM) Decatur; and WDZ (1050 AM) and WDZQ (95.1-FM) Decatur. Parents can also tune to WAND, Decatur or WCIA, Champaign. The school district web site will also carry the announcement. The website is www.cusd15.k12.il.us. The school district will call all parents whose name we have in our SchoolReach System, when dismissing early or cancelling school due to inclement weather. It is imperative that you have given the school your most recent phone number(s) if you would like to receive a phone call.
If school is going to be cancelled because of weather, the decision will be made by 6:45am on the morning in question. The SchoolReach system will be utilized in addition to the radio and television.  The absence of an announcement means that school is in session.
The safety of our students in getting to and from school is the factor that will determine if we will be in attendance or getting out early. The district needs parental assistance especially on days when school is being let out early. Make sure your child knows what to do if we are getting out of school early. Planning is the key to keeping our students safe. It is also imperative that your child have the proper clothing to keep warm while riding district transportation during the winter months. Please make sure you have a plan in place for your child if we have to let out of school early due to inclement weather.
